The idea for Crew came to its founder after he moved to a new city with his wife, who had just begun medical school. As he transitioned to working remotely full-time as the general counsel for a fintech unicorn, he became acutely aware of the fact that, for the first time in his life, there was no structured group from which he could find new friends.
He noticed that most of the friendships he had formed over the years came from school or work. But he had left the San Francisco big tech hub, and he was no longer working at a big law firm or living the social student life at Stanford.
After looking around at the available solutions, the gap became clear. On one end of the spectrum, finding friends is not and should not be something that resides in a dating app like Tinder, Bumble, or Hinge where people focus on romantic gratification. On the other end of the spectrum, simply because someone shares a hobby with another person and attends the same Meetup.com events or running club does not mean that those two will be fast friends.
After meeting a talented software engineer who shared the same vision, Crew was born to fill the gap. Crew is dedicated to building a cutting edge company that utilizes technology and social science to help people form genuine connections in today’s fast-paced world. Then, once you’ve been connected, Crew finishes the job by helping you break the ice and planning something we know you’ll enjoy.
